The Cook Library Center offers after school and summer programming for the youth of this neighborhood. They had recently acquired the lot next to the Library, and the director was interested in putting up soccer nets and benches. Although extremely simple in nature, this has been one of my favorite projects to work on, and demonstrates the need for community design/build. I brought the materials pre-cut, and along with a couple friends, installed them with a few highly engaged kids from the neighborhood. While the soccer field is a work in progress, it has been a huge hit, and there are plans for additional elements to be added in the future.
Sometimes I was working by myself, but more often than not I had some wonderful helpers interested in the process!
